Cafe Le Reve

Café Le Rêve is a specialty coffee shop in Collingwood built around a slower pace. The café roasts its own beans weekly, with espresso and French Press options and seasonal rotations intended to reflect what is tasting best at the time. Alongside straightforward coffee, the drinks menu includes more playful creations such as peanut butter hot chocolate, banana cold foam caramel hojicha and strawberry cold foam matcha. The coffee offering changes with the seasons rather than staying fixed year-round, giving repeat visitors a reason to see what is on the counter next.

The setting is a substantial part of the experience. Film photography prints form a rotating gallery across the walls, while indoor plants, music and a turntable contribute to the deliberately unhurried atmosphere. Le Rêve describes itself as a quiet place to work, think or simply sit for a while, with room for customers who do not want to rush through their coffee. That makes it a natural fit for solo visits, reading or laptop time, as well as a low-key catch-up where conversation can take its time. The visual focus also gives the space an appeal for people interested in photography and design.

Food follows the same relaxed, considered approach. The café lists pastries from Publique, light plates from its kitchen, layered croissants, sourdough crostini and old-school toasties. Its house signatures include a lime and avocado crostini, a mushroom and cheddar croissant, and the Classic H.C.T made with smoked ham, tomato, Scamorza and Publique sourdough. The drinks and plates are presented as house creations rather than a generic café list, so there is scope to choose between a familiar order and something more distinctive.

Café Le Rêve opened in 2024 with the idea of bringing back the kind of café where someone could stay with one drink for two hours without being hurried along. Its Collingwood space at 1–9 Sackville Street also extends beyond everyday café service: film-photography club and darkroom nights are planned, and a community film camera and lens library is listed as coming soon. Private photoshoots can also be arranged, with the plants, natural light and gallery-like interior offered as a setting for portraits or product work.
