Entrecôte

Entrecôte brings a distinctly Parisian take on French dining to 142 Greville Street, Prahran. The restaurant takes inspiration from Le Relais de L’Entrecôte, the one-dish steakhouse that opened in Paris in 1959, and presents itself as a Melbourne interpretation of classic French dining. Its offering spans breakfast, express lunch, dinner, drinks, takeaway and private events, making it suitable for anything from a weekend start to a long evening meal.

There are several spaces to choose from. The street-facing Terrasse has marble and brass tables, cane seating and French awnings, with walk-in seating available throughout the day. Inside, the Brasserie combines tiled floors, panelled walls, antique overhead fans and wicker chairs, and is positioned as the more relaxed setting. The restaurant specifically points to oysters, Champagne and Steak Frites here, while bookings are recommended, with walk-ins accepted when space allows.

For a more formal occasion, the Dining Room has cobalt velvet banquettes, antique French oak panelling, hand-painted tablecloths, chandeliers and custom lamps. It offers a set-priced à la carte menu and requires bookings. The enclosed, weatherproof Conservatoire draws on Parisian courtyard settings and also operates with a set-priced à la carte menu. For private gatherings, Le Salon Privé can seat up to 30 people and is styled with royal purple details, vintage embellishments and a selection of French and local wines.

The food and drink options extend beyond the main dining rooms. The bar is designed for a casual stop or a lingering night, with martinis, oysters, the Entrecôte Cheeseburger and signature Steak Frites among the offerings named by the restaurant. Next door, Le Petit Marché opens daily from 8am to 3pm for coffee, fresh baguettes, croissants, pastries, Parisian hot chocolate and other French provisions, including Mr Jones’ Sausage Roll, the Mitraillette and the Entrecôte Cheeseburger. Weekend breakfast is served on the Terrasse and in the Brasserie from 8am to 11.30am, while the Prix Fixe, Gourmand and all-day bar menus provide different ways to dine. The restaurant trades from midday until late Monday to Friday and from 8am until late on Saturday and Sunday, with service continuing through the day.
