Why it's worth checking out
Museum of Desire was an 18+ immersive exhibition exploring desire, intimacy and erotic art through interactive installations, technology, sound and playful participation. Its Melbourne season has now finished, so this is a past listing rather than a current place to visit.
The exhibition was set inside a 1,200-square-metre industrial warehouse conversion, with more than 20 main attractions. Featured works included Alice B. Wilder’s Genital Electric, Jamie McCartney’s Glass Vulva and Nine Lives casts, along with a laser harp, infinity mirrors, a Boobie Ball Pit and spaces designed for listening and reflection. The website described the experience as a walkthrough gallery where visitors could touch, play and become part of the work, rather than simply view it from a distance.
The tone was deliberately provocative but also positioned as playful and considered, combining international erotic art with interactive exhibits, AI, sound and other technology. It was aimed particularly at couples and date nights, while group bookings were promoted for parties, hens nights and other gatherings of 20 or more. Solo visits were also allowed. The exhibition was not suitable for children, with entry strictly limited to people aged 18 and over.
The website listed the venue at 92 Rupert Street in Collingwood and said visitors generally spent about 90 minutes exploring. It also noted that there was no food or drink available on site, although cafes and restaurants were nearby. Accessibility varied between exhibits, with some attractions unable to accommodate wheelchair users. The exhibition was described as an award winner in 2025, including People’s Choice Favourite Museum, Critics’ Choice and Impact Award recognition.
Spot Score
The Spot Score is our composite of five signals — two about the venue's standing with visitors and three about how complete and current this listing is. It is not a visitor rating and not a verdict on the food or the experience. The 4.3 from 394 reviews is Google's visitor rating, shown separately and never altered by us.
