The Melbourne Central Clock

The Melbourne Central Clock is one of the centre’s most distinctive attractions, suspended in Shot Tower Square alongside the historic Coops Shot Tower and its protective Glass Cone. The giant Marionette Watch performs an hourly rendition of “Waltzing Matilda”, making it a memorable detail to look out for while exploring Melbourne Central.

The clock sits within a much larger city-centre destination spanning two blocks and five levels. Melbourne Central brings together more than 300 retailers, dining venues and after-dark entertainment, with the square offering a chance to pause beneath the dramatic glass structure. The surrounding architecture connects the present-day shopping centre with the former shot tower, a brick building constructed in 1889 when the site was used for bullet-making.

It is an easy stop for visitors already in the CBD, with Melbourne Central train station accessible from the centre’s Lower Ground level and the free City Circle tram at the doorstep.
