The Rose Street Artists’ Market

The Rose Street Artists’ Market brings together Melbourne artists, designers, crafters and makers in a former junkyard setting in the city’s inner north. Listed in Collingwood, Melbourne, and described by its organisers as being in the heart of Fitzroy, the market has been running since 2003, turning a small part of Rose Street into a regular showcase for independent creative work. It operates each Saturday and Sunday, with up to 120 artists and designers represented at a time.

The market’s maker directory includes more than 3,000 artists and designers, reflecting the breadth of the creative community connected with the project.

Rose Street was founded by Adam F, its artistic director, and Christian F, who manages operations. Adam brought an arts background, including a VCA scholarship and a Melbourne Fringe Festival top prize, while Christian contributes business-marketing experience and a focus on supporting emerging local artistic talent. Together, they established a market built around direct exchange between creators and the public.
