The Silverlake Social - Prahran

The Silverlake Social brings a Southern Californian take on the traditional neighbourhood bar to Chapel Street in Prahran. Its offering centres on US craft beers, cocktails and familiar American-style food, with a menu covering starters, smash burgers, hot dogs and sides. The drinks list includes classic cocktails such as the Tommy’s Margarita, Negroni, Old Fashioned and Espresso Martini, alongside mocktails, wine and a rotating selection of tap beers. The venue’s tap line-up has included breweries such as Stone Brewing, Brooklyn Lager and Deschutes.

Food is designed for casual, generous eating. Options include chicken wings with a choice of classic, Buffalo, hot honey or smoky barbecue flavours; classic nachos with the usual Tex-Mex-style accompaniments; and mozzarella sticks served with buttermilk ranch. The burger section includes the Golden State with beef and American cheese, the Southern Fried Buttermilk Chicken burger and the plant-based Topanga Canyon. There is also the La Brea Hot Dog, while sides range from fries and sweet potato fries to onion rings and poutine.

There is more to the space than food and drinks. Silverlake Social has pool and arcade games, and screens live NBA, NFL and UFC events, giving it a clear sports-bar and entertainment focus. The atmosphere is intended to combine Americana with a Melbourne setting, making it suited to meeting friends for a burger and beer, watching a game or settling in for cocktails. The venue was founded by Nicholas Welch, who is also behind White Oaks Saloon and Casa NOM. In addition to regular bar dining, Silverlake Social offers a function space for semi-private gatherings and full venue takeovers, with birthdays and team celebrations specifically mentioned as suitable occasions. Reservations are encouraged, particularly for groups, and the venue is open seven days from 5pm.
