Yarra Bend Park, on the bends of the Yarra River at Fairfield just north-east of the CBD, is the largest area of remnant natural bushland in inner Melbourne. A beautiful, expansive park hugging the river, it offers a genuine slice of the bush remarkably close to the city — a popular escape for walkers, cyclists, paddlers and nature lovers.
The appeal is that combination of riverside scenery, bushland trails and recreation: walking and cycling paths, the historic boathouse and cafe, golf, picnic areas and a well-known colony of flying foxes along the river. It's a wonderful spot to walk, paddle a canoe, or simply relax by the water and feel a world away from the city.

The park is free and open, but facilities, the boathouse, trail conditions and parking vary, so it's worth checking the surrounds before a special trip — and taking water, sun protection and good footwear if you're planning a longer walk or ride along the river.
